Mr. Ben Brown - About Me

Ben Brown
Middle School Math
This is my 17th year teaching, and my fifth year at All Saints.  I love that I get to teach in the same building as my son Cooper. This is my first year at All Saints not teaching my daughters Mia and Macy, who graduated last year. My wife, Missy Brown, graduated from All Saints.  I also get to follow in the footsteps of my Mother In Law, Marilyn Peacock, as the long time middle school math teacher. This is how I've come to know what a great community and learning environment I am coming into.
I have a very diverse teaching experience.  I graduated from Fontbonne University in 2001 and got a job teaching in a very small school in the middle of Hillsboro and Desoto, called Grandview.  I taught two years there until my wife and I learned that we were having twins and decided we needed to move closer to HELP.  That was a great decision because we couldn't have survived without our close family.  The downside was I couldn't find a teaching job.  In the meantime, I was a teacher's aide for one in year in Webster Groves.  For the next five years, I taught in Jennings.  This experience formed who I am as a teacher, because it taught me how to deal with all types of challenging situations, and I also saw how important a great teacher can be to a student.
I played college baseball at Fontbonne and had been a coach almost every year I taught up until this point but I was coaching and teaching at different schools but in 2009, I found a school where I could coach and teach.  So for the last five years, I was the head baseball coach and teacher at Christian High School in O'Fallon. I had a lot of successes in the classroom and on the field, but the combination of both took a lot of time away from my family.  I began to see how quickly our kids were growing up, and I would never get that time back with them.  Through a lot of prayer, God really made it clear that I was to give up coaching at the high school level for awhile and focus on my family.  Once I did that, God blessed me with this teaching position at All Saints.  It's amazing what opportunities God will give you when you trust Him.
This is how I got to this point.  I know that my calling from God is to work with middle school students. He has given me the passion and patience to work with these great students.  I look forward to working with them and building great young adults.
